Yooo peace fam,
I really had to check myself the other day SMH… I realized something kinda uncomfortable… I love starting. New ideas, new concepts, new directions - that part feels amazing. There’s no pressure yet, no expectations, just pure possibility. Everything feels fresh and full of potential. But finishing? That’s a whole different energy.
Finishing requires commitment. It requires you to sit with the same idea long enough to see it through all its phases - the excitement, the doubt, the boredom, the resistance. And somewhere in there, a lot of us quietly move on. Not because the idea wasn’t good, but because it stopped giving us that initial feeling we fell in love with.
So we start something else.
And it feels productive. It even looks productive from the outside. But over time, you start stacking beginnings instead of building completions. A folder full of ideas. A hard drive full of drafts. A mind full of “almosts.”
And what’s wild is… starting and finishing use two completely different muscles. Starting is driven by curiosity and inspiration. Finishing is driven by discipline, patience, and truth. Because by the time you’re finishing something, you’ve seen it clearly. You know where it’s weak. You know where it could be better. You don’t get to hide behind the idea anymore - now you have to stand behind the execution.
That’s why finishing feels heavier.
But that’s also where your real voice develops. Not in the spark, but in the follow-through. Not in the idea, but in the decision to complete it anyway.
So if you’ve been feeling like you’re doing a lot but not seeing much come from it, it might not be a lack of talent or even a lack of ideas. You might just be addicted to starting.
And the shift isn’t to stop starting… it’s to choose something and stay long enough to finish it. Even if it’s not perfect. Even if it doesn’t match the vision in your head. Even if nobody sees it.
Because finishing does something to you that starting never will. It builds trust with yourself.
And once you have that… everything you create starts to move different.
